Featured Artist RMChaffee of ViolettesByBecky
Many have multiple passions in their life and anytime someone can manage to combine them into one, they have captured the brass ring! Becky managed to do just that when she combined her love of music and fabric and purses and bags into an amazing product that you have to see to believe!
Becky has a Master degree in Civil Engineering but took time away (well, about 18 years worth of time!) to devote to raising her children and doing volunteer work. Now that her chicks are a bit older, mom gets a chance to do some of the things she loves such as hiking and creating even though her family is no longer eating gourmet meals and she has taken over the ping pong table with her work.
ViolettesByBecky came about after a process of time. Becky taught herself to make purses, all kinds of purses, but it wasn’t until she stumbled upon a button that looked like a violin chin rest that her niche really came to life. Soon, a Violette was born! What is a Violette? Well, it is a purse shaped like a violin of course!
Becky showed her prototype creation to a professional musician who fell in love. She quickly tried it out and made some suggestions for small alterations so that these darling bags can be used by musicians to hold music, strings and tuners as well as any other musical paraphernalia that is needed and hung on the back of a concert chair. Amazingly practical product that looks amazing!
Soon, Becky had an entire line of products dedicated to musicians; but she didn’t stop there. While the original design was meant as a caddy for musical equipment, Becky modified her design into smaller versions that anyone with a love of music or just a love of the original can use as a handbag or evening purse….and you know that you will not run into anyone with the same bag.
Becky admits that she is still new to selling handmade work, but still encourages others to step into the ring. She has found the pitfalls of finding her market as well as come up against customers that want her bags but don’t want to pay the price. Becky understands this thought but believes in her work and continues to promote her handmade art.
Becky loves selling her work, knowing that one of her original creations was found by that perfect person. She has tried a few craft shows but being an intelligent business woman, realized that her niche market was not there. In order to reach a broader market, she has ventured into the world of online selling.
You can see these amazing works of useful art (how cool is that…amazing art that is functional!) on HandmadeArtists as well as her own website. You can also follow her on Facebook. Before you start clicking though, let me warn you that you have never seen anything like this so take you time and really enjoy the love of music and art that have gone into creating these amazing bags.
