What is the best advice that Marijane Rushing received from her father regarding life:”If you weren’t doing what you love, you were doing the wrong thing.” Amazing motto to live by no matter what your passion!

Marijane has always been an artist of one sort or another, starting out with stick figures in kindergarten and later throwing pots on a wheel in college, but she didn’t find her true passion right away.  She earned her Fine Arts Degree and has spent much time exploring her world whether through travel or learning a new skill.  Marijane loves books but claims that if someone isn’t dead in paragraph one she is ready to move on…readily admitting that patience is not one of her gifts.  Rather than allow that to stop the creative process she found a medium that give instant gratification.

This talented lady found that photography is both immediate and a beautiful way to show people how she sees her world.  Previously, Marijane admits, she did not put one hundred percent time and effort into her art, but has recently decided to jump back in full throttle…which, I have a feeling, is the only way she knows how to do anything!  She participated in her first ever Art & Gift show and received great feedback about her work.  She also learned a few lessons about selling her work.  Her final impression?  “It is all about chances-you have to take them!”

Marijane offers some personal insight to anyone wishing to sell their own handmade works of art; while she is her own worst critic and admits to wanting to quit a time or two, she encourages them to keep at it.  She put a sticky note on her computer to remind herself to just get over the fear and just do it….after all, failure is not the worst thing that can happen!  This honest assessment of her own artistic journey is an inspiration to us all.  Who hasn’t doubted themselves a time or two?
