I’ve been into making things with my hands since I was young. My parents gave me free reign with craft catalogs, so I was always trying something new. I used to knit, crochet, embroider, macrame and paint, among other things. I loved going rock hunting with my aunt and cousin, who belonged to a lapidary club, so I got to polish my gemstones and make simple necklaces. Then as I got older I married and had a daughter and stopped making things for a few years.

I didn’t get into making jewelry until about nine years ago, when my daughter and I were looking for some sterling silver jewelry online and I discovered I could order materials and make the bracelets we wanted for less money. After researching techniques and making a couple of bracelets, I discovered beads and all the other wonderful materials out there and basically became obsessed with making jewelry. My love of lapidary has been rekindled and I would like to start incorporating more gemstones into my designs, along with more extensive wirewrapping techniques and some basic metalsmithing.

My designs can be found at my online shop Manic Butterfly Jewels
