Featured Artist Laura Da Goddess of Tutreasures
“I have always lived or wanted an interactive life. Watching television or sports or anything that did not involve me doing something hands on was never enough for me.” Laura Da Goddess
Laura spent time as an IT tech for a nonprofit organization that provides advocates to the disabled and mentally challenged until about 8 months ago and is now looking to make a change to use her degree in Computer Sciences and Information Technology. In the meantime, with a new dream home, she spends her time playing music with her darling husband. She loves to get the crowd involved in her classic rock style and has a ball watching the teens get into 80’s music! In addition,
Laura has created her entire life; from child learning to sew, crochet, knit and cook from her step mother to an adult making the world more beautiful through art and music! As she took the stage more often, she was determined to find a different look that set her apart from the crowd. Not finding jewelry and accessories that were not cookie cutter or way out of her price range, Laura took matters into her own hands and began reclaiming old, broken and discarded treasures and turning them into custom works of art that are absolutely one of a kind. Much to her shock, fans would offer to buy her creations right off her body, sweat and all! Her husband, who had a bit of experience selling on EBay, suggested that she try selling her work on the internet. The result? Totally Unique Treasures (or TUTreasures) was born.
This talented lady loves the fact that her work is completely unique. Because Laura’s treasures are made from reclaimed components, she describes herself as a recycle artist and is proud that, in a small way, she is preserving pieces of the past as well as saving them from further filling up the already overflowing landfills. While her contribution to a green earth may seem small, her work may just inspire another to save and reuse rather than throw away which will inspire another. Grass roots effort at its best! People are taking notice too. Laura was recently written up in an online magazine featuring her work.
Laura has found much joy in selling and creating beautiful one of a kind wearable art and the idea that others love her work so much they are willing to pay for it is always a thrill. She is confident in her skills and advises others looking to get into the handmade marketplace to not listen to anyone else’s negativity when you are pursuing your dream. Only you know what your passion is and it is not for anyone else to decide whether it is worth chasing or not. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t since nobody knows what they can do until they try.
Are you ready to see what a musically talented recycle artist can do with a pile of old jewelry odds and ends? Well, Laura is easy to find on the web on HandmadeArtist as well as on Etsy. You can check out her Jewelry on Facebook, her Music, and even her Duct Tape Work.
Final words? “I love custom work and I will work with my own supplies or reclaimed items or yours. As always I am “Saving the Planet, One Accessory at a Time.”
