Featured Artist Kim of The Whimsical Jar

Do you ever get a bit of a pang of regret when one of your pieces sells? If so, you have a kindred spirit with Kim of The Whimsical Jar!

Kim spent her career as a Technology Coordinator for an Arkansas school district, raising children and caring for elderly parents; but has recently retired for a much slower paced life full of creativity. She and her darling husband live on Beaver Lake, which in her words, have turned them into a Lake Bums (which sounds like a wonderful life to me!) with days spent fishing, swimming and taking boat rides.  Since Kim’s husband is still working hard, she has plenty of time to devote to her art.

Kim was blessed to have parents in the art field growing up.  This creative spirit allowed her to experiment until she stumbled upon polymer clay and a new obsession was born.  In the beginning, selling was not on her radar at all but after a time, her creations began to multiply like rabbits around the house.  In an ideal world, where money was not a problem, Kim says she would not sell her jars at all, but instead keep creating and give them away as gifts!  Since keeping them all was not an option, the world is not blessed to be able to share in her creations.  Kim says the ultimate rewards of selling her work is that someone loved a piece enough to spend their hard earned money on it, and while she is thrilled to send her little treasure on to its new home, she still feels a pang as her creations have become like real people to her.

Kim likes the fact that her business is small and uncomplicated and encourages other handmade artists to not make selling your top priority….unless you want to drive yourself crazy!  She says that you must “enjoy what you are doing and things will work out for you if you keep trying.”
