Featured Artist Cliff of Micro Pendants
Usually, you glance at a piece of jewelry and see pretty much all there is to see, right? Not so with this talented artisan’s work.
Cliff is a multitalented man who always has a variety of irons in the fire. When he is not working on his amazing jewelry, he can be found doing computer consulting work, writing, and hanging out with his family and dogs. Always creative, Cliff has dabbled in a variety of activities that combine his technical and nerdy (his words) background with his creative and artistic side; the results are a completely unique combination not like any other. Prior to jewelry, there were key chains out of computer memory chips and even digital picture frames long before they were mainstream items. Fun ideas and full of love, but not the profitable business he was looking for.
Cliff began his microscopic writing, not with the idea for jewelry, but on microscope slides themselves. This idea even prompted probably the coolest proposal ever. A doctor ordered one in order to propose to his fiancé! Now, despite being incredibly unique, this idea was not one to build a business plan on; so Cliff moved on to something more relatable….jewelry! He takes microscopic text and incorporates it into pendants that look pretty basic at first glance, and amazing upon closer inspection.
Cliff admits that selling his creations has been a learning process; figuring out marketing techniques that work, where to sell, how many shops to have, SEO in addition to the products themselves as far as creating, pricing and photographing. All that being said, there is little more rewarding than the time when a customer finds that perfect piece and just has to have it. Even better, according to Cliff, is when he later receives and email regarding how much that customer loves their piece! Business requires patience, and this is the advice that he offers to anyone looking to sell their own handmade creations…selling takes time! The beauty of being an internet vendor, however, is lower overhead which should give you some breathing room while you build your business.
