Featured Artist – Beadwife
I’m Kalera Stratton, a lampwork glass beadmaker based in Portland, Oregon. I got my start lampworking in Spring of 1992, when a friend gave me a brief demo in her apartment… I was only 20 years old, but I was mesmerized by the glass and knew that it was my calling. A month later, for my 21st birthday, my mom gave me a gift certificate to Cline Glass, and I embarked on an amazing glass journey that would eventually become my career. Step by small step, I acquired the tools I needed to fulfill the visions in my head, and in 2003, after the birth of my youngest daughter, I upgraded my equipment, quit my job, and became a full-time glassworker (though I supplemented my income with side jobs to make extra money). My beads are annealed as I make them, going straight from torch to a digitally-controlled kiln. With a constant thirst to improve my skills, it is my goal to bring you beads that will delight your senses, enhance your designs, and last for generations to come.
