Celebration of the Star Spangled Banner
I know, it is not the fourth of July, but there is still a reason to celebrate the National Anthem of the United States! This is the 200th anniversary of the writing of this national symbol and the city of Baltimore, where the anthem was written, is doing it up big!
Francis Scott Key wrote the poem in 1814, “Defence of Fort M’Henry” after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. This poem has since become an everlasting symbol of the American spirit. In honor of its anniversary, I say we celebrate with some patriotic handmade treasures!
